{"id":21774,"date":"2026-03-31T05:54:23","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T05:54:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mup-energy.com\/?p=21774"},"modified":"2026-03-31T05:54:25","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T05:54:25","slug":"geothermie-fuer-die-neue-monheimer-mitte","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mup-energy.com\/en\/geothermie-fuer-die-neue-monheimer-mitte\/","title":{"rendered":"Geothermal energy for the new centre of Monheim"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sustainable energy supply for a new urban neighbourhood<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The development of modern urban neighbourhoods presents cities and project developers with a key challenge: <strong>How can a sustainable energy supply be integrated right from the planning phase?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A current example of this approach is the <strong>Redesign of the centre of Monheim<\/strong>, which is centrally located on Rathausplatz in the town of Monheim am Rhein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the third construction phase, a new neighbourhood with residential and office buildings is being created that is consistently geared towards a long-term sustainable energy supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The development of a renewable energy concept for the new neighbourhood was already planned at an early stage of the project by <a href=\"https:\/\/mup-energy.com\/en\/\"><strong>M&amp;P Energy<\/strong><\/a><strong> - <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/siera.com\/de\/\"><strong>Member of the SIERA Alliance<\/strong><\/a> supported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Project overview<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The centre of Monheim is being developed in several construction phases and will form an important part of the city's infrastructure in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The third construction phase comprises:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>two residential buildings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>two office buildings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a shared basement that connects several buildings with each other<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Before construction work began, several older existing buildings were demolished to create space for the new neighbourhood development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Geothermal energy at the heart of the energy concept<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The energy concept is based on <strong>near-surface geothermal energy<\/strong>, which is used for both heating and cooling the buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The system includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>170 geothermal probes<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>95 metres depth per probe<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Installation <strong>below the floor slab of the basement<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This solution utilises the ground as a long-term renewable energy source and enables an efficient and low-carbon energy supply for buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Construction phase and schedule<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Preparations for the installation of the geothermal system are already underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Current project status:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Construction pit shoring completed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Excavation work currently underway<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Start of geothermal energy construction: <strong>30 March 2026<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The installation phase of the geothermal system is expected to take around <strong>4.5 months<\/strong> last.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Geothermal energy in urban development<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Projects such as the Monheim Centre show how <strong>Geothermal energy can play a central role in the sustainable development of modern urban neighbourhoods.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By utilising the subsurface as a renewable energy source, geothermal systems offer several advantages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Long-term security of supply<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reduction of CO\u2082 emissions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>High energy efficiency<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reliable operation over decades<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The role of M&amp;P Energy<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In this project, the client has been supported in the development of the geothermal energy concept since the early planning phases by <a href=\"https:\/\/mup-energy.com\/en\/\"><strong>M&amp;P Energy<\/strong><\/a><strong> -
