A current highlight is the Extension of the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium (GSG) in Garbsen, which will be built on the former TSV Berenbostel sports ground to the north of the existing school building.
These about 85 metres long and 32 metres wide Extension is available as Hybrid timber frame construction with steel composite columns on the façades and wooden columns in the interior.
Renewable heat supply through geothermal energy
The city of Garbsen, the client of the project, secured the financing via the KfW funding programme „Climate-friendly new construction of non-residential buildings - municipalities“. The aim is a completely renewable heat supply concept with DGNB and QNG certification as a climate-friendly new build.
M&P Energy developed a Geothermal system with 36 geothermal probes, respectively 149 metres deep, which provides heat via underfloor heating, ensuring comfort in winter and passive temperature control in summer. From the feasibility study to the 3D modelling of thermal effects, the water rights procedure through to the Planning ready for execution accompanied M&P Energy every step of the project and thus ensured Quality and efficiency.
In order to Optimum efficiency and Long-term reliability planned to ensure M&P Energy one Monitoring during operation of the geothermal system. Two dedicated Temperature measuring points are installed in the inflow and outflow areas of the groundwater in order to monitor the temperature profile underground and thus ensure efficiency.
In addition, recycled backfill sand from a regional rainwater retention basin is used for the geothermal pipe trenches, which underlines the endeavour to achieve DGNB and QNG certification as a climate-friendly new build.
The planned implementation of the geothermal system at GSG Garbsen will result in a fully functional, renewable heat supply that will significantly reduce the school's carbon footprint and energy costs. The project also supports the city's overarching sustainability goals. In addition, the extension now serves as a model for climate-friendly public buildings and illustrates how innovative engineering solutions, Sustainable materials and strategic planning can be combined to achieve lasting ecological and sustainable benefits.
